Tab Indexing

Links in the site have been given a tab weighting to allow quick access to each link. Tab weighting allows the user to scroll the page using the tab key on the keyboard if they do not wish to use their mouse. The tabs run from left to right starting at the top of the page.
The order for tab indexing in a page is as follows:

•  Home Page

•  Top Navigation

•  Section Navigation

•  Left Hand Navigation

•  Quick Links

•  Utility Links

Links

Links have title attributes that describe the link in greater detail, hover over the link with your mouse and this description is displayed.  If the link is already a full description then there will be no title attribute.

Images

All images used in this site include descriptive ALT (alternative text) attributes. Purely decorative graphics have empty ALT attributes.
To improve the websites performance you can also view the website without images.

In Internet Explorer do this by clicking;

• Tools

• Internet Options

• Click on the Advanced tab

• Scroll down to Multimedia

• Click on Show pictures to remove the tick

• Click on Apply, and then click on OK.

Visual Design

This site uses cascading style sheets (CSS) for visual layout. CSS is a mechanism that is used to add style to web documents eg font, colours, spacing. You can see this in action in the top menu bar where the menu changes colour when you hover over the sections with your mouse.

This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers. If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.

Adobe Acrobat

Within the website you will need Adobe's Acrobat Reader to view the PDF files. If you don't already have it installed, you can download Acrobat Reader from the Adobe website, clicking the link will open a new browser window.

Problems with Text Size

If you find that the text is too small for you to read, you can change it to a size you're more comfortable with:

• In Windows Internet Explorer, use the View - Text Size menu

• In Macintosh Internet Explorer and Netscape 6 and 7, use the View - Text Zoom menu

• In Opera, use the Zoom selector.

• In Firefox and other Mozilla browsers, use the View - Increase Text Size option

• In Safari, use the View - Make Text Bigger option.

If you use a wheel-mouse, you may be able to change the text size by holding down the Control or Command key and turning the wheel.
In some browsers you can change the text size using Control or Command and the + (plus) and - (minus) keys.

To make a window bigger

To make the area of the site viewed bigger, you can maximise the window area by choosing one of these options:

• Click Full Screen on the toolbar

• Press F11 on the keyboard

• Click on the View menu, and then select Full Screen.
